Steak Fry? Blue Ribbon Steak Dinner? What Is This All About?
I’mDon't worry! You're not the first one to ask! In fact, this is a common question when families become involved with 4-H and the Washington County Fair.
The final Saturday of fair, just before the WCLA Youth Livestock Auction, the WCLA, with help from 4-H & FFA volunteers, puts on a big steak dinner, feeding 500-1000 people in just 2 hours. That’s a big undertaking that takes many hands and many hours of prep to pull off. Yet, everyone feels it is a tradition worth preserving and a cause worth promoting, as it provides scholarship funds for college-bound teens.
Through an application process, each spring, a scholarship committee selects worthy students to receive scholarships. The recipients are derived from Washington County Livestock Association Member families, who have a chance to receive the scholarship twice. This tradition has helped numerous students in their pursuit of a career and we hope to continue this for many years to come!
