Animal Transportation Notice for Participants
With the 2020 WCLA Auction approaching, there are a few details that the auction committee would like to share with participants regarding transportation of animals after the sale. In the past, it has been the practice to load market animals onto the trailer and have an auction committee member or volunteer take it to the meat processor or otherwise designated location. This year will have to be different due to COVID-19 in order to simplify the process.
- Participants and their families will be responsible for transporting their animal to their designated location for meat processing. These locations have not yet been solidified, but shortly after the auction, participants will be receiving a phone call with information about when and where to deliver their animals.
- If animals are not delivered to the location, there will be no paycheck issued to the auction participant.
- The auction committee and volunteers have been working endlessly for the last 4 months to make sure that there is an auction available to the participants. Please do your part to make sure that the animals make it to where they need to go on time and at the right location
- It is possible that not all animals of the same species will go to the same location (ie. Not all pigs go to the same meat processor or slaughterhouse). If you do not know where you are supposed to deliver your animal, please contact the auction committee through the WCLA website contact portal. We will be checking it frequently.
- Please be prepared to transport your auction animal to the designated location as soon as Sunday August 2nd. Some meat processors only butcher on Mondays or specific times of the week. It is critical that we do not delay them, as availability for butchers has been very minimal. We are very lucky to have local meat processors willing to take on the workload of our auction animals.
- If there is a conflict in schedules that prevents you from being able to drop off your animal, please plan accordingly to make alternate arrangements. We anticipate having all animals delivered to their final destination by August 11th, but we cannot guarantee a specific date for each animal until after the auction.
- Weigh in paperwork is due at the time of drop off! Even if you are having someone else drop off your animal, they must present your paperwork-completed and signed. The printable paperwork necessary for each species is available under each of the species pages on the website. Please Note: All species that did not have an in-person weigh in (ie. Sheep, goats, and hogs) must present a dated bill of sale or a written documentation of a homegrown animal. Here are direct links just in case:
